SF Zine Fest:
July 19, 11am-8pm
July 20, 11am-7pm
I will be selling my plushies at the SFZine fest. I am very excited, this looks like its going to be a super venue.
There is a whole flotilla of special events leading up to the Zine Fest weekend!
First off, this year the Zine Fest is partnering with the fantastic
Mission Creek Music! Mission Creek will feature nearly
a dozen shows from July 17 - 20, at venues big and small. Check out
amazing bands like Bat Makumba, Chana, Willow Willow, Firme, Volumen
Cero, Extra Action Marching Band, Nurses, The May Fire, and many, many
more... There are several shows every night all over town, so take
this opportunity to see some amazing music. For more info, head over
to their website: www.mcmf.org
There are two great comics readings leading up to the Fest:
On Thursday, July 17, Sparkplug Comics is hosting an action-packed
reading from Bookhunter, the Eisner-nominated graphic novel by Jason
Shiga, at the Oakland Public Library (125 14th Street in Oakland), the
actual setting of this hilarious comic! Jason is an tremendously funny
man, and this reading is sure to be a treat... Also reading are fellow
Sparkplug geniuses Trevor Alixopulos and Hellen Jo.
On Friday, July 18, head over to the Cartoon Art Museum (655 Mission
St between 3rd and New Montgomery) for an evening of live readings,
with an all-star line-up: Andy Hartzell, Calvin Wong, Lark Pien, Joey
Sayers, Justin Hall, MariNaomi, Minty Lewis, Peter Conrad, Rina
Ayuyang and Renee French! The show starts at 7pm, and the suggested
donation is $5 (but no one will be refused for lack of funds).
Also on Thursday, July 17, cartoonist and stand-up comic Michael
Capozzola presents a live version of his weekly San Francisco
Chronicle cartoon "Cheap City," the show includes creative
problem-solving for social ills and cheap solutions and quick fixes
for life and city living. And who can't use THAT these days? 8pm - The
Dark Room (2263 Mission Street) - $10 admission fee.
See you there!
